Potter hails Howe ahead of ‘exciting game’ with Newcastle

Graham Potter has praised Eddie Howe ahead of Chelsea’s trip to face Newcastle in the Premier League this weekend.

Chelsea make the trip to face the in-form Magpies on Saturday evening, with Newcastle having impressed this season to sit third in the table. Howe celebrated his first anniversary in charge of Newcastle this week and has overseen a remarkable transformation on Tyneside.

He inherited a team without a win and stuck in the relegation places last season and has turned Newcastle into top four contenders during his 12 months at the helm.

Much has been made about Newcastle’s new-found wealth, but Chelsea manager Potter believes Howe deserves huge credit for his improvement of the team and opened up on his admiration for his opposite number.

“They’re good in all faces of the game,” Potter told his pre-match press conference.

“I really like what they’re doing and how they’re playing. He’s improved the players and yes they’ve spent money. I could speak for half an hour about how nice Eddie is and how much I admire him because he’s galvanised the team and the club is moving forward.

“Everyone will feel better if you can get the three points before the break but we know that Newcastle will be fighting for them too. It will be an exciting game.”
