Ange Postecoglou has dismissed the suggestion that Spurs are a better team without Harry Kane, following the club’s record-breaking start to the new campaign.
Spurs are top of the Premier League table after their best start to a campaign since 1960/61, a season which saw the north Londoners crowned champions.
No manager new to the Premier League has ever won more points after nine games than Postecoglou, who has overseen a remarkable start for Spurs despite the summer sale of Kane.
The club’s all-time record goalscorer joined Bayern Munich in a deal worth around โฌ100m, but Postecoglou has dismissed the notion that Spurs are better without the England captain.
The Australian believes that Kane – who scored four times in a friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk under Postecoglou before his exit – would have scored goals in his system.
“I’m not into this commentary that we’re a better team without Harry because the last game Harry played for us, he did alright in our system when he scored four goals,” Postecoglou said at his ore-match press conference ahead of Friday’s fixture with Crystal Palace.
“It’s fair to say we would have been able to squeeze him in somewhere – and I’m being sarcastic there – but him not being there just allows us to bring different individuals into the team and they change the dynamic.”
