Postecoglou committed to Spurs despite midweek anger

Ange Postecoglou has said he remains committed to improving Tottenham despite the Australian’s criticism of the club’s ‘fragile foundations’ in midweek.

Postecoglou was involved in a heated exchange with a supporter during the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City and has been critical of some Spurs fans welcoming defeat, in order to avoid handing the title race advantage to North London rivals Arsenal.

“The foundations are really fragile,” he said after Wednesday’s loss.

“The last 48 hours have shown me that. It’s inside the club, outside the club. Outside, inside, everywhere. It’s been an interesting exercise. It’s just my observations, mate.”

Postecoglou’s comments come after former managers Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte criticised the mentality of the club. Speaking ahead of Spurs’ final-day fixture with Sheffield United, Postecoglou was asked whether some of his issues had been addressed.

“Not in two days, mate, no,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“I think, as I said at the time, we have some work to do. It is clear and evident and that is what we need to focus on.

“I have been determined from day one. Nothing has changed. I haven’t been deterred, if that’s what people are worried about.

“When you accept the role you accept what comes with it. Nothing has changed in terms of how we go about that. But you have to know where you are at.”

Postecoglou provided an update on the fitness of his squad and revealed Giovani Lo Celso is the sole doubt for the trip to Bramall Lane.

“The only one that’s a bit of a doubt is Gio lo Celso,” he said. “He got a knock on his knee, he didn’t train today but we’ll see in training tomorrow.

“[There are] a few sore bodies but nothing that will make any changes to the personnel from the other night, so it’ll likely be a similar squad for Sunday’s game.”
