Pochettino gives full backing to Lloris after PSV sending off

Mauricio Pochettino has given Hugo Lloris a vote of confidence despite his poor form of late.

The Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper was sent off in their Champions League game at PSV Eindhoven during the week.

Spurs went 2-1 up but had to settle for a draw following an equaliser after going down to ten men, leaving the club with just one point after three group games.

However, Pochettino says he has no issue with Lloris and feels his red card was a harsh one.

“He is very good,’’ Pochettino told the media at his Friday press conference.

”Of course he is disappointed like all of the team because we deserve more. He is disappointed like we all are. Sometimes this can happen, this type of action, for me it was not a red card. Hugo is an important player for us, our captain and no doubt our keeper.”

Although Lloris enjoyed World Cup success with France in the summer, he has committed a number of errors leading to goals in the last year.

The French international was also banned from driving this year after police caught him driving while under the influence of alcohol, yet Pochettino has consistently stood behind his number one.

Spurs will need Lloris to regain his past form very soon however, as they face Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on Monday night.

This has been Tottenham’s best ever start to a Premier League season and they will be looking to continue that form when Pep Guardiola’s men arrive in London.
