Pochettino confirms Lloris will remain Spurs captain

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed today that Hugo Lloris will retain his position as club captain despite the France international’s recent conviction for drink driving.

Lloris was arrested in Central London on the 24th of August and this week was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £50,000.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of his sides Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Saturday, Pochettino was asked if Lloris would remain his skipper, to which he replied: “Of course.”

The Argentine then went on to say that Lloris regrets his actions and is suffering as a consequence:

“He is the first to regret about everything and all that happened is not good, he doesn’t feel great,” he added.

“He said he is sorry and he is a man and accepts his mistake.

“Everyone can make a mistake, he made a mistake and he is suffering. He is punishing himself. That is a massive lesson for everyone, he was the first to tell me he made a mistake.”
