Pickford admits Watford win is a ‘great result’ for Everton

Jordan Pickford was delighted with Everton’s 1-0 win over Watford this afternoon, hailing it as a ‘great result’.

After an ambitious summer in the transfer market, Everton’s season started with somewhat a damp squib, being held to a 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace last weekend.

Their first home game of the 2019/20 season saw the visit of Marco Silva’s former club Watford, with the Toffees pursuit of the Portuguese in 2017 still being a sore subject for Hornets fans.

It would turn out to be a tight affair on Merseyside, with Bernard’s 10th-minute strike turning out to be the only goal of the game.

Jordan Pickford made a fine second-half save from Troy Deeney, while former Watford forward Richarlison missed a number of chances, and speaking after claiming their first win of the season, England number 1 Jordan Pickford admitted that the Blues had to ‘grind’ out the result.

“I think it is a great result,” Pickford told the BBC.

”A big grind I would say. We didn’t play the football we wanted but these games if you get the points that’s key.

“It is a full team effort from the front. We work hard in training all week. We are resilient. It is a great three points that gets us off and running at home.”
