Phil Foden has said he is excited to work under Enzo Maresca at Manchester City as the club prepare for a new era.
Maresca has been appointed as Manchester City’s new head coach, with the former Chelsea boss replacing Pep Guardiola, following the latter’s decision to step down at the Etihad.
Maresca previously worked under Guardiola at City, before impressing after taking the step into senior management. He won the Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup at Chelsea and Foden has backed the Italian for more success in Manchester.
He said he’s excited to work under Maresca and hailed his attention to detail.
“So excited. Obviously, I’ve had Enzo before. When we had him in the Treble season, he was brilliant,” Foden said.
“His attention to detail, the small things that make a big difference, and even training with him at the moment, you can tell how good of a coach he is.
“I’m really excited to play under him and see where it goes.
“He’s so nice. He’s down to earth. He’s someone that you can go to and talk about anything to him, and he would help you out.
“Even if you want to work on things to get better, he’ll do one-on-one sessions with you after training.
“And that’s something he did with me as well when he was here. I did small finishing drills with him and things like that, and he really grew my game.
“So, like I said, I’m looking forward to starting a new season with him and we know each other really well. So that’s a good thing as well.
“[His style of football is] Very exciting. You can tell by the first few sessions that I’ve done with him.
“The way he likes to play out from the back and play a lot of possession-based [football], and it suits my game really well.
“I’m looking forward to that and hopefully it can help my game go to the next stage.”
