Emmanuel Petit believes Bruno Fernandes was the ‘best buy’ of the winter window and says the midfielder is doing what Paul Pogba ‘was meant to be doing’ at Manchester United.
The Portuguese international has made an immediate impression at Old Trafford following his mid-season arrival from Sporting Lisbon, scoring three goals and providing a further four assists in nine appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Fernandes’ arrival has also coincided with an upturn in form for Manchester United as the 25-year-old has instantly become an influential presence at the heart of the midfield, and former Arsenal and Chelsea star Petit admits Fernandes’ performances are what has previously been expected of club-record signing Pogba.
“In the space of two months, [Fernandes] is the best buy in the winter market. He has made such a big impact. It’s like he’s been at the club for six years,” Petit told the Mirror.
“He’s changed the mentality inside the dressing room. It’s hard for a player to come in mid-season and do that.
“Paul Pogba was meant to be doing this at Manchester United. It’s what he should have done in terms of leadership on the pitch.
“But I’m looking forward to seeing them together on the pitch, I want to see if that can work, and I’m pretty sure it can.”
