Perez hails Newcastle’s ‘togetherness’ after brilliant comeback win over Everton

Ayoze Perez has hailed Newcastle’s ‘togetherness’ after seeing his side come from two goals down at half time to beat Everton 3-2 at St James’ Park.

Rafael Benitez’s side trailed 2-0 at the interval courtesy of goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, with a poor first half further worsened by Matt Ritchie’s penalty miss.

Newcastle would hit back in the second half through Salomon Rondon’s goal, before Perez’s late double secured a memorable comeback win.

The victory was Newcastle’s fifth home win in succession, and forward Perez was full of praise for the club’s second half reaction.

“What an amazing feeling. Such a great comeback,’’ Perez told the BBC.

”There are still a few games to go but we are closer [to safety].

“The reaction was very good from the team in the second half. That togetherness with the fans took us to what we did on an amazing day at St James’ Park.”

Newcastle move up to 13th in the league while Everton slip to 11th.
