Andreas Pereira says Manchester United’s young stars deserve their chance to impress Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer, with several of the club’s best prospects having impressed during the club’s pre-season tour.
Highly-rated forward Mason Greenwood was amongst the goals as United thrashed rivals Leeds 4-0 on Wednesday, whilst fellow teenager James Garner was also on the scoresheet in the club’s opening friendly against Perth Glory.
Defender Axel Tuanzebe has returned following his impressive loan spell at Aston Villa last season, the 21-year-old looking to force his way into Solskjaer’s plans, whilst Angel Gomes and Tahith Chong have also impressed in Manchester United‘s opening fixtures of pre-season.
Pereira says the club’s best young talent deserve their chance to impress, with the Brazilian saying the current crop can follow the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard in breaking through to the first-team.
“I think we have to let the young players show them what they’ve got. Especially now in pre-season, they have the chance to show it,” said Pereira ahead of Saturday’s friendly with Inter Milan in Singapore.
“Of course, United have always bought brilliant players. But you see Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard, who have come through the ranks, and before them Scholesy, Giggsy and Becks, who were given a chance to develop as players.
“We’re all fresh in training, the young boys run around a lot, but we also have the experienced players like Nemanja Matic, Ashley Young and Phil Jones. They help us, they tell us what to do, so it’s a very good mix.”
