Palmer ‘buzzing’ after back-to-back Stamford Bridge hat-tricks

Cole Palmer said he was ‘buzzing’ after scoring four times in Chelsea’s 6-0 thrashing of Everton on Monday night.

Palmer made it back-to-back home hat-tricks for the Blues with a stunning individual performance against Everton, with his haul including a perfect first-half treble.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring with a wonderful individual goal, combining well with Nicolas Jackson after a nutmeg in the build-up and bending a finish into the far corner. He followed up a rebound to head in a second on 18 minutes, before completing his hat-trick with a long-range chip over Jordan Pickford.

Palmer converted a fourth from the penalty spot after the break and now has 20 goals in the Premier League this season, with the winger tied with Erling Haaland as the leader in the race for the division’s Golden Boot.

“It all happened so fast in the first 30 minutes,” Palmer reflected at full-time.

“We started well and to score a hat-trick, I’m buzzing. I think the team needed that after last Sunday and some previous games. We did well tonight. It was a great game for the team and me.

“We needed to come out and show something and I think from the first minute we showed what we could do. It was a good performance tonight. We’re really happy with the win.

“To make the decision to come to Chelsea was a big one for me and my family, but I just wanted to play football. I’m thankful to Chelsea for the opportunity and I’m buzzing.

“I think my first one was my favourite. My right-footed goal was a bit of a swinger, but my first one was probably my favourite. As an attacker, you always want to help the team with goals and assists, but my main focus was playing well and trying to get into the positions to score goals.”

Chelsea next turn their attention to FA Cup success with a semi-final against Palmer’s former club, Manchester City, at the weekend.

He said Chelsea, who extended their unbeaten run in the league to eight games, are keen to end an up-and-down campaign on a high.

“This season has been a bit inconsistent for us,” Palmer said.

“We have had some poor performances, but then again we have battled with the big sides, done well and got some good wins. We need to take each game as it comes and see where we finish.”
