Mauricio Pochettino has called Chelsea’s 6-0 win over Everton a ‘dream come true’ after his side thrashed the Merseysiders at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer was the star of the show as Chelsea recorded their biggest win of the Pochettino era so far, with the 21-year-old scoring four times in west London. Nicolas Jackson and academy graduate Alfie Gilchrist were also on target, in a win that extended Chelsea’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to eight games.
The Blues remain ninth in the table but move within three points of European qualification, with a game in hand on the sides above them.
“An amazing performance,” said Pochettino after the win.
“I’m so happy and full credit to the players. The perfect game, I think. We scored six and kept a clean sheet – a dream come true!
“It [the clean sheet] is so important against a team that produces a lot and is very dangerous in offensive situations and set-pieces. Today the team was fantastic. We showed good spirit from the beginning which makes us very pleased.”
Pochettino lavished praise on the prolific Palmer, who moved to 20 league goals in a stunning debut campaign in the capital. The England international is now tied with Erling Haaland in the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, in a breakout campaign for the summer signing from Manchester City.
“The impact on the team was amazing from day one,” Pochettino said on Palmer. “We always expect the best with everyone we sign, so it has not surprised us. He was always the player with the capacity to score goals, even in Manchester City.
“But the way he adapted himself and the way he is playing and performing is fantastic. It is amazing for the team, amazing for him, and shows that the club made the right decision by signing him.”
