Crystal Palace are reportedly trying to hijack Sunderland’s move for Lyon player Malick Fofana on Transfer Deadline Day.
The winger was of interest to Arsenal and had spoken to Mikel Arteta as the Premier League champions look to add more depth to the wide areas of their squad, but the Black Cats agreed a deal with Lyon on Tuesday.
The Wearside outfit agreed to pay a transfer fee of around £25.7 million (€30m) including bonuses to sign the 21-year-old.
Fofana was set to undergo a medical after agree a five-year contract with Sunderland, but the move may not go ahead after the Eagles submitted a bid of their own.

According to The Athletic, Palace have “agreed the same deal” with Lyon for Fofana, potentially scuppering Sunderland’s plans.
It would appear that the final decision on which club he joins is up to the Belgium international, who has two years remaining on his Lyon contract.
Meanwhile, Palace have announced the loan signing of Honest Ahanor from Atalanta. The 18-year-old is set to join Chelsea for £40 million next year.
