Arsenal legend Marc Overmars has urged his former side to ditch Mesut Ozil and replace him with Hakim Ziyech for a fraction of the price.
Ozil has been a hugely controversial figure in recent years, with his workrate and commitment frequently coming into question, despite his undoubted creative qualities.
Despite his £350,000-a-week wages, the former Germany international has struggled to hold down a place in the Arsenal side since Unai Emery’s arrival at the Emirates last summer, with reports suggesting the club are keen to move him on.
One man who thinks Ozil should be offloaded is former Gunners ace and current Ajax Director of Football, Marc Overmars, who thinks Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech would be a much better, and cheaper alternative.
“I am a bit surprised that it is still so quiet around Hakim,” Overmars told Voetbal International.
“I think he has played better every year and his statistics are exceptionally good. Many clubs are increasingly looking at that.
“They look more at the numbers than at what he shows and what is happening around him. I think Hakim Ziyech is better than Mesut Ozil.
“I would say sell him (Ozil) and you will get Hakim for half. But they (Arsenal) didn’t listen to me. So it could just be that he stays with Ajax.”
Ziyech was one of the players that we recently featured as six cheaper alternatives to Wilfried Zaha, and it is thought that he would be available for just over £30 million, despite the Morrocan netting 21 goals and laying on 24 assists last season.
