Ogbonna admits he’s happy for ‘humble’ Lanzini after injury return

West Ham’s Angelo Ogbonna admits he is happy for ‘humble’ Manuel Lanzini after the Argentine’s return from a serious knee injury.

Lanzini made his first Premier League start in 293 days in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle, and the  26-year-old shone on his return to first-team action.

Goals from Declan Rice and a Mark Noble penalty sealed an impressive win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, and Italian defender Ogbonna was full of praise for the performance of playmaker Lanzini.

”Players like Manu, like Nasri, like Snodgrass, we need that kind of player when you’re struggling maybe and you need to keep the ball,” Ogbonna told whufc.com.

“You need that quality to keep the rhythm of the team and I’m really happy for Manu because he had a bad injury and has come back.”

“He is a humble person and everyone expected that reaction from him because he is a good talent.”

West Ham’s next fixture is a trip to face struggling Cardiff City on Saturday.
