Newcastle United should be a top six Premier League club according to Daily Mail journalist Oliver Holt.
The North East club are renowned for their passionate fanbase with St.James Park full to its 52,000 capacity for every home game the Magpies play.
However, Newcastle’s current owner Mike Ashley is a hugely unpopular figure on Tyneside and thanks to his underinvestment in players since his controversial takeover in 2007, the best the Toon Army can hope for while he is in charge is Premier League survival.
Holt believes seeing a club with such massive potential constantly struggling is a waste and he labelled Ashley’s reign as toxic.

“What I see as an outsider is a waste, a waste of potential,” Holt told Sky Sports Sunday Supplement.
“You come into the city and you see that stadium – it is the city’s cathedral.
“If I look at two clubs that are a waste I would say Leeds and Newcastle, but Leeds at least appear to be getting back to what they once were. Leeds and Newcastle should be top six – they are great English clubs.
“It is toxic, what it is going on there, but it is a shame.”
