Newcastle are interested in £40m rated Hoffenheim forward Joelinton.
Rafael Benitez is keen to strengthen his striking options this summer, and has been linked with a move for the Brazilian who has scored 11 goals in all competitions for the German side this season.
Newcastle’s top scorer this season is on-loan Salomon Rondon, though owner Mike Ashley is considered to be unsure whether to pay the £16.5m to turn Rondon’s move from Championship side West Brom into a permanent switch.
Benitez is keen to secure Rondon on a permanent basis, however, Ashley has doubts over the forward’s resale value with the Venezuelan set to turn 30 in September.
According to the Chronicle Benitez has targeted Joelinton regardless of the decision on Rondon’s future, though Newcastle would likely have to break their transfer record for the second time in six months to secure the 22-year-old.
The £21m January signing of Miguel Almiron broke Newcastle’s long-standing transfer-record, with owner Ashley likely to have to invest further significant funds to sign a player rated at £40m by the Bundesliga side.
