Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy reckons Bayern Munich’s David Alaba would be a good fit for his former side amid his ongoing contract standoff.
Alaba has little over six months remaining on his deal at the Allianz Arena, and has so far rejected the offer of a new deal as he seeks parity among the club’s highest earners.
Liverpool meanwhile are down to the bare bones at the back following the potentially season-ending injury to defensive lynchpin Virgil van Dijk.
Former Reds midfielder Murphy reckons Alaba would represent ‘the best option possible’ if Jurgen Klopp were to strengthen his squad in January – the versatile Austria international comfortable at centre-back, left-back and in midfield.
“In terms of his ability, he absolutely fits. He is a super player,” Murphy told Stadium Astro.
“I suppose what you would have to be looking at from Jurgen Klopp’s perspective is the balance of the squad moving forward when everyone is fit. Or you just look short-term and get the best option in possible, which would be him.
“I would be wanting to do it. You can’t have enough good players. I think he would certainly add quality and strength in depth, but there will be a lot of people interested and a lot of takers for Alaba.”
Alaba has also been linked with Manchester City where he would reunite with former Bayern boss Pep Guardiola.
