Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has urged his star studded squad to follow the example of midfielder Nemanja Matic if they want to finish this season successfully.
United’s Portuguese coach has come under fire from fans and the media this season, with many believing his pragmatic tactical approach is stifling his sides attack minded players.
However, as we reported yesterday the former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach is said to have the complete backing of the club’s CEO Ed Woodward.
According to highly respected Independent journalist Miguel Delaney, Mourinho wants his younger players to follow the lead set by his £40 million summer signing Nemanja Matic.
“Woodward is said to be totally convinced of Mourinho’s approach. The Portuguese plans more changes to his team in the summer, and sees Nemanja Matic’s attitude as an example to the rest of the United squad.”
“He views the Serbian’s responsible and disciplined mindset as a requirement for any summer targets.” Delaney wrote.
United face arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday in one of English football’s most highly anticipated fixtures, with both club’s battling it out to finish second in the Premier League behind runaway leaders Man City.
