Mourinho praises Manchester United fans after 3-0 Spurs defeat

Manchester United’s start to the season went from bad to worse tonight as they slipped to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Spurs at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho’s side started the game well and should have taken the lead early on when Romelu Lukaku rounded Spurs ‘keeper Hugo Lloris but the Belgium international dragged his shot wide.

Spurs stepped it up a gear in the second-half however, with the home sides defence unable to cope with Harry Kane and Lucas Moura. England captain Kane headed his side ahead from a corner not long after half-time, before January signing from PSG Moura finished smartly twice to seal the victory for his side.

Despite Manchester United suffering their second loss out of three games so far in the Premier League and the already intense pressure on him set to ratchet up to even higher levels, United manager Jose Mourinho was full of praise for the Old Trafford Faithful and the reception they gave him and his players at the end of the game.

“We worked all week and from the tactical point of view we didn’t lose, but we lost the game.” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“But all our fans don’t read papers, all our fans don’t watch television, all our fans are more intelligent than that – they answered in an absolutely amazing way.

“I don’t think it’s normal to lose a game at home and the supporters to react the way they did.”
