Jose Mourinho has revealed that virtually every single defender at Manchester United is a doubt for tonight’s huge Premier League clash against Arsenal.
Many people were shocked at Manchester United‘s last line up, which saw them play with just one recognised centre-back in the shape of Phil Jones, who was flanked by midfielders Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic in a makeshift back three.
However, with high flying Arsenal the visitors to Old Trafford this evening, Mourinho has revealed that his problems may have worsened since the weekend, and he will have to make a late decision on a number of players’ fitness.
“Against Southampton, three hours before the game I don’t know the team that is going to play,” Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference.
“We were waiting and waiting to see who could [play] and who could not. And we are in a very similar situation this time.
“If the game was at 11 o’clock [in the morning on Tuesday], I would say Chris Smalling is not playing, Eric Bailly is not playing, Phil Jones is not playing, Victor Lindelof is out of the question.
“Antonio Valencia is not playing, Luke Shaw is a doubt, Matteo Darmian is back, but I have to wait, I have to select probably everybody again and take everybody again.
“Maybe [on Wednesday] we have to decide, like in the last match, with a couple of hours before the game.”
United are also without former Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez with a hamstring injury, Ashley Young through suspension, while there are also doubts over Romelu Lukaku who fell awkwardly after treading on the ball at the weekend.
