Mourinho insists he is not disappointed after missing out on Real Madrid job

Jose Mourinho insists he is not disappointed after missing out on a return to Real Madrid.

The European champions this week reappointed former manager Zinedine Zidane on a three-year contract, with the Frenchman returning to the club which he only left at the end of last season.

Real have endured a disappointing campaign this season, sitting third in La Liga and suffering a shock Champions League exit to Ajax, with Zidane becoming Los Blancos’ third manager of the season following the dismissals of Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari.

Mourinho had been linked with a return to the Bernabeu, with sections of the Madrid support singing his name following the defeat to Ajax.

However, former Manchester United and Chelsea boss insists however he is not disappointed at Zidane’s appointment, saying the return of the three-time Champions League winner is ‘perfect’ for the club.

“No! Why would I be disappointed?” he told El Chiringuito TV.

“I never said that I would or would not like to [return to coach Madrid.] I think it’s perfect, for me it’s perfect.”

“I think it’s perfect because of the fantastic things he has done in the past few years. It’s perfect for Madrid, perfect for him.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to prove how good he is, now with a new project. I think it’s fantastic. I wish the club all the best.”
