Jose Mourinho has hinted that his Manchester United side could be without some key players as he prepares his team to face Chelsea on Saturday.
It has been a woeful start to the season for Manchester United so far, losing three of their opening eight Premier League games of the season, and having to rely on a late comeback to beat a winless Newcastle United 3-2 in their last outing.
Following that victory, a number of United stars jetted off around the world to play for their countries in the second international break of the season, and while the likes of Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw withdrew themselves from international duty due to slight injuries, Jose Mourinho has suggested that some players have returned with unexpected ‘important injuries’ – saying that he could be forced to play a semi-fit Ander Herrera.
“Some came back in good condition and the happiness of some good results. Some came back with injuries, injuries that we were aware of when they happened and the national teams were correct in sending the boys back,” Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference.
“We also had surprises with players that we had no idea that they were injured and they arrived with important injuries. The squad shape is that everybody available is selected.
“Players that are going to make an effort to be available for the team, like Herrera. He trained two days but, with the situation we have, is one step forward and he’s ready to help us.”
Marouane Fellaini is known to have picked up a knock while away with Belgium, although Roberto Martinez said he expects him to be fit for United’s trip to face Chelsea, although Alexis Sanchez was pictured at London Heathrow airport this morning as he was a late arrival from his exertions with Chile, and could miss the game.
