Mourinho discusses Dele Alli’s ‘phenomenal’ form as Spurs edge out Bournemouth

Jose Mourinho described Dele Alli’s recent performances as ‘phenomenal’ after the midfielder was once again heavily involved in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Bournemouth.

There’s been plenty of talk about Alli in recent weeks, with the England international enjoying a renaissance since Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Tottenham boss last week. The midfielder laid on an assist in the win over West Ham last weekend before getting on the scoresheet in the midweek Champions League win over Olympiakos.

The 23-year-old was at it again on Saturday afternoon, opening the scoring in the 21st minute, before netting his second of the game five minutes after the break.

Moussa Sissoko made it 3-0 with 21 minutes still to play, before Bournemouth‘s Harry Wilson netted a superb free-kick to give the Cherries a glimmer of hope and to deny Jose Mourinho his first clean sheet. Wilson would net again in a nervy finale, though the North London side would hang on to earn all three points.

Speaking afterwards, Jose Mourinho explained how he has extracted the best form out of Spurs’ two-goal hero.

“He plays in a position where he feels happy and comfortable, we also give him space for his creativity which he always has,” the Portuguese told Match of the Day.

“I think he played three phenomenal matches since I arrived.”

The result moves Spurs up to fifth in the table, just six points behind Chelsea, who slipped to a home defeat against West Ham.
