James Milner has broken another Premier League record, becoming the player with the most appearances in the history of the division this weekend.
The 40-year-old started for Brighton against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, marking his 654th game in the competition. That sees him overtake Gareth Barry’s record of 653, which he set in 2018.
It’s the third time Milner has made Premier League history this season. He has the longest playing career in the league, having played in the top-flight for 24 years.
The former Liverpool and Man City star is also one of only five outfield players to have made a Premier League appearance at the age of 40 or older, joining Teddy Sheringham, Ryan Giggs, Gordon Strachan and Kevin Phillips.
Milner is also the league’s second-oldest goal scorer, which is quite fitting given he is also the second-youngest goal scorer after scoring for Leeds United just nine days before his 17th birthday.
