Alvaro Morata has admitted that he seriously considered leaving Chelsea this summer.
The 25-year-old became the Blues most expensive signing when he moved to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid for £58 million last summer.
Although Morata started his Chelsea career in fine form, he began to struggle for both form and fitness the longer the season went on and finished his maiden campaign in English football with just 15 goals in 48 appearances.
His struggles in West London saw Morata miss out on Julen Lopetegui’s Spain squad for this summers World Cup in Russia, which Morata has revealed caused him to question his future at Stamford Bridge.
“Last year I wasn’t happy. I started well but at the end, it was a disaster,” Morata told reporters after his recall to Spain duty by La Rojas new coach Luis Enrique.
“I went out to the pitch and didn’t even know where I was. I considered returning to Spain or Italy.
“But you can’t always escape reality, I left Spain to earn a place at the World Cup and I did not go.
“It was hard. I’m going to do everything I can to go to the next one, it was a difficult time because I expected to go.”
