What a sensational debut season it has been for Mohamed Salah at Liverpool, and despite only arriving for £37 million last summer, his value has sky rocketed to £150m, according to BT Sport pundits.
PFA Player of the Year. Premier League Player of the Year. Liverpool Player of the Year. Golden Boot winner and now the new Premier League record holder for the most goals in a season. Apart from the Ballon d’Or, which isn’t announced for another seven months or so, what else could he win on an individual level?
His sensational form has reportedly alerted the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, and former Premier League midfielder Jermaine Jenas has said he thinks the Egyptian would be worth around £150m.
“I think you’d have to put him between probably £120m-150m, easy,” Jenas told BT Sport, when asked what Salah is worth in light of Neymar’s £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain last year.
“I mean, what did Coutinho go for in the end? £120m? Was it more than that, was it? Well, there you go. I mean he’d go for the equivalent of that right now, if not more.
“It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens with the awards after the summer, with the summer that he has and going into next year with the Ballon d’Or and all that.
“But I don’t see how you get Mo Salah for less than £150m in today’s market.”
Jenas’ BT Sport colleague Michael Owen agreed with his lofty valuation of Salah.
“I think I have to,” he said, when asked if he agrees Salah has been the bargain of the season. “I mean it’s not often you spend £37m on someone and you say it’s a bargain.
“But, in this day and age, what’s his value now? You could probably put another £100m on to that.”
