James Milner has praised the character of his Liverpool side after they came from behind to beat struggling Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor on tonight.
The hosts took a shock lead through Jack Cork’s second-half strike, before Liverpool hit back with goals from Milner, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri to reduce the gap to leaders Manchester City back to two points.
Jurgen Klopp made several changes from Sunday’s Merseyside derby win over Everton, Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson missed out through injury whilst Mohammed Salah and Roberto Firmino were only named amongst the substitutes.
The heavy rotation looked as if may cost the Reds after Cork’s opener, but Milner was full of praise for his side after the comeback win.
”The character we showed after going behind, to come back in that fashion is what we expect from this team.’’ Milner told the BBC.
“It was really tough but we showed the character of this team and these are performances you need.”
Liverpool next face a trip to Bournemouth on Saturday lunchtime, whilst Burnley host Brighton.
