Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he “really loves” the players he already has, even though transfer rumours about signing a new striker persist.
The Spaniard was delighted with his side’s performance on Monday night as they gutted a poor Sheffield United, scoring six goals at Bramall Lane.
Martin Odegaard opened the scoring inside the first five minutes, followed by an own goal from Jayden Bogle and strikes by Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Ben White.
“I love the way the team played with the quality we showed,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “The aggression as well with and without the ball, but we are really happy with the way we played and also kept a clean sheet.
“We have to continue what we are doing and I’m happy to get some players back like Fabio Vieira and Thomas Partey – now it’s about maintaining momentum.
“We will enjoy this today and then it is Brentford – we will keep going.”
Arsenal have been persistently linked with forwards such as Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen in recent months, with pundits and commentators suggesting they need a number nine to bring them glory.
The Gunners have shattered that narrative in 2024, scoring 31 goals in seven Premier League games since the new year. For Arteta, it’s all about getting the most out of the squad of players he’s currently got.
“We really love our players and it’s our job to improve them and give them the resources and put them in situations that they can explore their qualities,” he said.
The win keeps Arsenal within two points of league leaders Liverpool, who face second-placed Manchester City at the weekend.
