Lionel Messi has described Barcelona’s performance in their 3-0 Champions League quarter-final second leg win over Manchester United as ‘spectacular’.
The Spanish giants booked their place in the last four with a 3-0 win at the Nou Camp, Messi scoring twice in the first-half before Philippe Coutinho’s spectacular strike sealed a 4-0 aggregate success for Ernesto Valverde’s side.
United started brightly in Spain, Marcus Rashford hitting the bar within 40 seconds, but were dominated following Messi’s opener in the 16th minute.
Messi would score his second following an uncharacteristic mistake from United goalkeeper David De Gea, before Coutinho’s curling effort from distance secured the win.
Barcelona progress to the semi-finals for the first time since lifting the trophy in 2015, where they will face Liverpool or FC Porto in the last four, and Messi was full of praise for his side’s dominant performance against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’ side.
“It was spectacular,” Messi told reporters after the game.
“This is what we are. In the first five minutes, we went in a little cold and nervous – but from then on the goals came and we put in a spectacular performance.”
