Merson predicts Rashford to be key man for Manchester United v Chelsea

Paul Merson has predicted that Marcus Rashford could be the key player in this weekend’s high profile clash between Manchester United and Chelsea.

Like a lot of the Manchester United team, Rashford’s performances have come under increased scrutiny in recent weeks after the Red Devils woeful run of form has seen them lose seven of their last nine games in all competitions.

Despite that though, they still have a fighting chance of finishing in the top four, with this weekend’s game against Chelsea shaping up to be pivotal in deciding their Champions League hopes.

Speaking ahead of the game, former Arsenal forward Paul Merson thinks that United will win Sunday afternoon’s game 2-1, with Marcus Rashford’s pace and movement potentially proving to be ‘too much for the Chelsea defence’ which has hardly looked solid all season.

“I expect United to win, believe it or not. I think [Marcus] Rashford will be too much for the Chelsea defence,” Merson wrote in his weekly Sky Sports prediction column.

“I watch Chelsea, if [Eden] Hazard doesn’t turn up it’s difficult, or if teams keep him quiet. You’ve seen teams do it before.

“I don’t think there’s a lot between the teams, [N’Golo] Kante being injured changes things, if he does play then they might have too much energy for United’s midfield but otherwise, Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be moving out to the left, Jorginho is never going to get you a goal and [Mateo] Kovacic – I can’t remember when he last had a shot.”
