McManaman explains his doubts over Liverpools potential Sancho move

Steve McManaman is unsure whether Liverpool will make a move to sign Jadon Sancho and has explained his doubts over a switch to Anfield for the Borussia Dortmund star.

The England international has been strongly linked with a return to English football and the Premier League in recent months, with Liverpool said to be among the frontrunners to sign the player who has starred in the Bundesliga so far this season.

Sancho – who has also been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea – has scored 14 goals and provided a further 15 assists in all competitions for Dortmund, the teenager recently becoming the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score 25 league goals.

Despite the 19-year-old’s evident talents, however, McManaman is unsure a move to Liverpool suits either club or player, given the costs involved in securing the deal and Sancho’s desire to be an automatic first-team starter.

“I think he’d prefer to go somewhere where he will start week-in and week-out. I don’t think there’s any problem with that,” McManaman told HorseRacing.net.

“The other thing is the cost implications. How much is he going to cost?

“No doubt, he’s an extremely bright prospect, he’s doing really well in Dortmund, he plays regularly and he’s a star there.

“Whether Liverpool would go for him now is something that I don’t know and if he was available, he’d command big money and I presume that there’s a number of clubs that would go for him.

“Jadon could cost ยฃ60m/ยฃ75m and that’s a lot of money for somebody that young even though he looks a fantastic prospect.

“It’s a big outlay for a player and in all honesty Liverpool’s young players are all doing well themselves and Jurgen Klopp seems to want to give them a go.”
