Matheus Cunha won’t be sold in the January transfer window despite being linked with moves to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has said.ย
The Brazil international has been a standout performer on a poor Wanderers team this season, recording 10 goals and four assists in 21 Premier League appearances.
The Midlands outfit are determined to nail their star man down to a new contract as his current one expires in 2027, but have failed to do so after months of negotiations.
Cunha has reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal, who want to add more firepower to their frontline, and Forest, who are looking for reinforcements in their bid to finish in the top four.
Matheus Cunha ‘not for sale’ amid Arsenal and Forest transfer interest
Pereira says he has spoken to the 25-year-old after criticising his body language during the 3-1 defeat away to Chelsea on Monday and believes the player is committed to Wolves.
โHe knows what I want from him,โ the Portuguese tactician said ahead of facing Arsenal on Saturday. โWe had a conversation and everything is solid. Heโs ready for the game, committed to us and ready to help the team.
โI had a conversation with him and heโs very committed to us. He never asked me to leave the club. He wants to help the team, he wants to be with us, he wants to be with us tomorrow to try to win the game.โ

Pereira added: โThis is a question for the club but he is my player and I think heโs not for sale. This is the information from the club and heโs committed to us.โ
Rather than sell a key player, the Wolves head coach says the club need new additions, specifically in midfield and defence.
“We know to be more comfortable for this right, a difficult fight which we will face, we need at least two more players, in my opinion,” Pereira wrote in his match programme notes.
“We need more solutions to help. I’m very happy with the team and with the players that I have, but I think we need more solutions in midfield and maybe another defender.
“We are trying to understand the market and the opportunities in the market depends on what we find. If we find the right players to bring in, then OK; if not, it’s better not to bring them in.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta refused to address the club’s reported interest in CUnha when asked this week. โYou have certain resources, the ability to recruit certain players, develop certain players, use certain players from the academy. Itโs a balance of what we can do,โ he said.
