Arsenal are assessing forward options ahead of the final week of the January transfer window. Injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus have limited Arsenal’s options in the final third and the recruitment team are working behind the scenes.

The Gunners travel to face Wolves in the Premier League this weekend. Arteta’s side have been linked with a move to sign Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, who has impressed in a struggling side this season.

Cunha has 10 goals and four assists in the Premier League and is understood to be a player of interest to the North Londoners.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Arteta said Arsenal are seeking firepower but admits any addition must be ‘the right one’.

“We lost two very important forwards, we have to get more goals into the team if we can do it, but the right one.

“You have certain resources, the ability to recruit certain players, develop certain players, use certain players from the academy. It’s a balance of what we can do.”

When asked specifically about Cunha, Arteta said: “You know I prefer not to talk about individuals, just the collective quality they have.”

Arteta also confirmed that Arsenal have no plans to terminate the loan agreements of Raheem Sterling and Neto. Arsenal have used their full quota of two Premier League loans and are unable to sign another player on loan from an English club this month.

Back-up goalkeeper Neto has failed to make an appearance for Arsenal since arriving from Bournemouth, while Sterling has struggled for status in Arteta’s squad. However, Arsenal will not cut short the agreements to facilitate another loan space.

“We’re not considering to terminate Raheem Sterling or Neto’s loans this month,” the Spaniard said.
