Chelsea ‘resigned’ to Mason Mount leaving amid breakdown of contract talks

Chelsea’s hierarchy increasingly expects Mason Mount to leave the club after talks over a new deal for the 24-year-old broke down.

Academy graduate Mount broke into the Chelsea first-team under former manager Frank Lampard and has made 125 Premier League appearances, scoring 27 goals and providing 22 assists for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

The 36-cap England international has struggled for form this season though and with Chelsea in ninth position in the Premier League table he has come in for some stinging criticism from Blues fans.

Mount currently has 18 months left on his current contract and according to Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath Chelsea are starting to accept that the midfielder will not sign an extension and does not want to be part of their project in the long-term.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will look to cash in on Mount during the summer transfer window or if they allow him to run down his deal and leave for free in the summer of 2024.

Despite his recent struggles, Mount remains a highly-rated talent and as we reported this week he is sure to garner plenty of interest from Chelsea’s top six rivals.
