Martin Keown has suggested that Arsenal’s ‘identity’ is at risk, the former defender criticising the Gunners current defence following their latest disappointing result.
Arsenal went ahead in their Europa League tie with Vitoria Guimaraes, Shkodran Mustafi netting in the 80th minute, only for the Gunners defensive frailties to be exposed once again, Bruno Duarte da Silva levelling in stoppage time in a spirited finish for the hosts.
The 1-1 draw means that the North London club have won just one of their last six outings in all competitions, surrendering a lead in each of their last four games, and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has slammed Emery’s side, saying the club are in danger of losing some of their ‘identity’.
“There are problems all over the pitch,” Keown said on BT Sport.
Arsenal have led in each of their last four games across all competitions:
FT: 2-2 vs. Crystal Palace
FT: 5-5 vs. Liverpool
FT: 1-1 vs. Wolves
FT: 1-1 vs. Vitória

“It can quickly be turned around. If I was involved in the weekend I’d go on the attack because we can’t defend.
“We are in danger of losing some of the identity of the team built under Arsene Wenger. We cannot defend and have lost that attacking flavour.
“I think it’s a personal thing of how you mark up in set-pieces. There are huge gaps. All they did was put a ball in and run through the hole. They could put a double-decker bus through that! It’s too simple. It’s basic decision-making and they need to change.”
The result leaves Arsenal top of Group F with 10 points, four clear of Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt and six clear of Belgian outfit Standard Liege, although Unai Emery’s position as head coach looks all the more uncertain.
