Manchester United vs Leicester – Predicted lineup and team news

Manchester United embark on a new era this evening as the Red Devils take on Leicester City in the Carabao Cup’s fourth round.

After the decision was made to dismiss Erik ten Hag on Monday, Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the side for tonight’s tie. The former favourite replaces his compatriot in the dugout after Ten Hag was sacked, following the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.

Ten Hag won silverware in each of his first two seasons in charge at Old Trafford, including this competition in 2022/23, but poor performances in the Premier League have led to change.

Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim could be a keen observer of tonight’s game against Leicester, amid the expectation that he will be appointed as Ten Hag’s successor.

For Leicester, the Foxes are aiming to continue improving under Steve Cooper. After a shaky start to the season, the newly promoted side have won two of their last three in the Premier League.

Manchester United team news

Ten Hag’s exit wipes the slate clean for an underperforming Manchester United team but it remains to be seen whether Van Nistelrooy deviates too much from recent selections.

Luke Shaw’s nightmare run with injury has continued with another set-back for the left-back, though Leny Yoro is nearing his return after undergoing surgery for a foot issue sustained in pre-season. Harry Maguire is unable to face his former team, while Antony is sidelined with a sprained ankle.

Noussair Mazraoui is a doubt after injuring his knee in the defeat at West Ham at the weekend. Lisandro Martinez or Harry Amass could deputise at full-back.
