Manchester United urged to ‘stick with’ Rashford and Martial amid Haaland transfer talk

Dimitar Berbatov has warned Manchester United against the signing of Erling Braut Haaland and believes the club should focus on the development of current forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Haaland has emerged as a key transfer target for Manchester United in recent months following his prolific start to the season with RB Salzburg, the 19-year-old having scored 28 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions, including eight in just six appearances in this season’s Champions League group stages.

The highly coveted teenager has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the January transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having previously worked with the player at Norwegian side Molde.

However, former United striker Dimitar Berbatov has warned against the signing and believes the Red Devils should focus on their current attacking options.

“Haaland is good and he is still young. He’s developing and maybe he can get better,” Berbatov told Sky Sports.

“But I’ve said many times before that Martial and Rashford are, for me, the two main strikers that United need to keep.

“I played with Martial in Monaco, I know how good he can be. Now he’s in the place he can develop and become a world star.

“Everyone knows how good Rashford can be … they need to stick with these two players.”
