Manchester United have reportedly added Kylian Mbappe to their list of potential transfer targets as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes plans for pepping up his attacking options next summer.

United were linked with adding a striker to their ranks this summer, the club credited with having an interest in Harry Kane following his request to leave Spurs towards the back end of last season.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s need to recruit a striker was strongly lessened after he managed to convince Edinson Cavani to pen a one-year extension to his deal, though the Uruguayan is still expected to leave next summer and return to South American football.

The Red Devils have since splashed over £100 million in adding Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their side, while they remain interested in potentially adding a right-back and a central midfielder before the close of the transfer window.

While Harry Kane’s future is up in the air this summer – with Man City hoping to land the capture of the unsettled Spurs striker – United would be expected to be among his suitors next summer if he is still with the North London outfit.

Meanwhile, the presence of a €75 million release clause in the contract of Erling Haaland will see United among the front runners for the Norwegian’s signature.

According to ESPN though, they have added PSG’s Kylian Mbappe to their list of potential targets.

Mbappe has entered the final year of his contract at the Parc des Princes, and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, while Liverpool have also been tentatively linked in recent years.

The report says United are keeping a ‘watching brief’ over the France international who would be a free agent next summer, with United one of the few clubs who could compete financially for what would be a huge free transfer.

However, it adds that the club accepts that a move to the Premier League is the ‘unlikelier’ scenario if it were a straight choice between that or move to the Bernabeu, with Real Madrid his ‘preferred’ option.

Mbappe became the second most expensive footballer of all time back in 2018 when he moved to PSG from Monaco, the Parisian side splashing €180 million on the then-teenager.

The report also suggests Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez could be a player of interest next summer, the Argentine having been linked with both Arsenal and Spurs this summer.
