Manchester United are interested in Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez as a potential replacement for wantaway midfielder Paul Pogba.
Pogba has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford, having admitted during a press conference earlier this summer that he wants ‘a new challenge’ amid reported interest from Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG.
The 24-year-old is amongst the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe, having earned 16 caps for the Spanish national side since his debut in 2016.
The academy graduate committed his long-term future to Atletico by signing a huge nine-year contract in 2017, with any club looking to sign the midfielder likely to have to meet his £134.5m release clause.
A deal for Saul may also prove difficult with Diego Simeone’s side in the midst of a squad overhaul this summer. Stalwarts Diego Godin, Filipe Luis, Lucas Hernandez and Juanfran have already moved on, whilst midfielder Rodri joined Manchester City in a club-record £62.8m deal this week.
Star forward Antoine Griezmann is also expected to depart, the French forward having announced his intention to leave the Spanish capital and is likely to move to La Liga rivals Barcelona, and has already been replaced by Joao Felix.
