Manchester United are set to sign Stoke City’s teenage defender Nathanย Collins.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to freshen up his under-performing squad with young talent this summer, and will target a move for 18-year-old defender Collins on the advice of the club’s former midfielder Darren Fletcher.
According to The Sun, Fletcher became a huge admirer of the young Irishman following his own spell at the Championship club and has recommended the player to officials at Old Trafford.
Collins, who broke into the first-team towards the end of last season, has been capped at U19 level for Ireland and Fletcher believes the player is ready for the step-up to the Premier League.
The former Scotland captain has been linked with a behind-the-scenes role at United, with a move for Collins his first influence as Solskjaer looks to rebuild his squad.
The Norwegian is actively targeting young, hungry players in the summer window, having also launched a bid for Swansea City’s 21-year-old forward Daniel James.
