Manchester United are expected to complete the deadline day signing of winger Facundo Pellistri according to reports in both France and Uruguay.
The Penarol winger had been expected to join Lyon this summer, with L’Equipe reporting that the Ligue 1 side had agreed a deal worth €5million, plus a further €2m in addons – the Uruguayan side expected to retain 40 per cent of the 18-year-old’s future economic rights.
However, Manchester United have stolen a march in the race to land the highly-rated teenager’s signature, and have agreed to pay the youngster’s $10m (£7.75m) release clause.
According to Uruguayan outlet, Tenfield [via Sport Witness], Pellistri is now set to travel to England on Monday to complete a move to Old Trafford, the teen having completed a medical in his home country on Saturday – receiving ‘optimal results’.
United have persistently been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho throughout the summer, though have so far refused to meet their £108 million asking price – though it is thought that Pellistri is not an alternative to the England international.
With no progress in their pursuit of Sancho, the Red Devils are now being more strongly linked with Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele who is not thought to be in the plans of Ronald Koeman.
However, while the La Liga side would be willing to sanction a transfer on a permanent basis for around £60 million, United are believed to be keen on a loan move for the somewhat injury-prone World Cup winner.
Aside from the potential arrival of Pellistri, United are also expected to wrap up the signings of Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles, both players believed to already be in Manchester for a medical.
