Manchester United confirm Ander Herrera exit

Manchester United have confirmed that Ander Herrera will leave the club this summer.

Herrera has less than two months remaining on his contract at Manchester United, but the Basque midfielder has turned down all of the clubs offers of a new deal, with reports claiming that he wanted a new five year deal including a wage hike to a whopping £300,000-a-week.

A salary of that level would see him become one of the clubs top earners, despite only starting 48% (92) of United’s Premier League games in his five years at the club.

He has been strongly linked with a free transfer to French champions PSG this summer, and although neither club has confirmed the move, United this morning tweeted “A goodbye message from Ander Herrera.”

During his time at Old Trafford, Herrera has scored 20 goals in all competitions, and helped the club win the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup, as well as being named the clubs Player of the Year for the 2016/17 campaign.

Herrera could make his final appearance for the club tomorrow as Manchester United’s season comes to a close with their home fixture against already relegated Cardiff City.

The 29-year-old is expected to be one of a number of high profile departures from Old Trafford this summer, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Juan Mata all being linked with exits, while Antonio Valencia is already confirmed to be leaving upon his contract expiry.
