Manchester United linked with bizarre move for Chelsea’s Bakayoko

Manchester United have apparently made contact with Chelsea regarding a possible move for Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Well, it wouldn’t be a proper transfer window without Manchester United being linked with a whole host of weird and wonderful names, but this one really caught us by surprise.

According to French publication, RMC, the Red Devils are one of a number of sides who are interested in signing the France international, with the report going as far as saying that they have ‘made contact with Chelsea’ about a potential move.

The midfielder was previously linked with a move to Old Trafford back in 2017 following his impressive performances in Monaco’s title-winning campaign, before he opted for a £40 million move to Chelsea instead.

Bakayoko arrived as a replacement for the Manchester United bound Nemanja Matic, and while Chelsea fans thought they were getting a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder, they were left sorely disappointed, with his performance against Watford a particular low point in his spell at Stamford Bridge.

He was subsequently loaned out to Italian giants AC Milan, where, in fairness, he did rediscover some form, making 31 appearances in Serie A.

Manchester United have been linked with a whole host of midfielders this summer, although why they would be interested in signing a player who has previously failed to adapt to life in the Premier League is quite frankly beyond us.

He has now returned to Chelsea, but it is unknown if he features in the plans of Frank Lampard, who already has the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley as his midfield options.

The report, which is mainly centred around PSG’s interest in taking Bakayoko back to France, also says that Arsenal boss Unai Emery ‘appreciates his profile’.

For now, we’ll be filling this transfer rumour under B for b*llshit.
