Manchester United will step up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, but a deal for Barcelona star Phillipe Coutinho remains unlikely.
Sancho has emerged a leading target for Manchester United, with the teenager being linked with an £80m summer move to Old Trafford.
The 18-year-old has shone since leaving Manchester City for Germany in 2017, being handed his England debut by Gareth Southgate in October last year.
Having established himself as one of the brightest prospects in European football at Dortmund, the United hierarchy are keen on making a move for the winger who has scored eight goals and provided ten assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances so far this season.
According to the Independent Dortmund would be reluctant to sell Sancho, with the German side preferring to keep him until the summer of 2020 at the earliest. The club believes Sancho’s rapid development in Germany will persuade the youngster to extend his stay in the Bundesliga for a further season, before returning to a leading Premier League club.
Whilst United are keen to press ahead with a move for Sancho, a deal for Coutinho is deemed unlikely. Representatives of the Brazilian have allegedly contacted the Old Trafford hierarchy regarding a move, with the playmaker having failed to establish himself at the Nou Camp since a £146m move from Liverpool in 2018.
United are believed to have declined the opportunity, with the strengthening of other positions a priority.
