Manchester United have reportedly registered an interest in signing Aston Villa centre-back Pau Torres.
Torres has been an important part of Aston Villa’s progress under the management of Unai Emery, helping The Villans to a top-four finish and Champions League qualification last season.
The Spanish centre-back was excellent in the 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in midweek, helping shut down the threat of Harry Kane and assisting the winner for Jhon Duran at Villa Park.
Manchester United have a long-standing interest in the player having tracked his progress at former club Villarreal before the 27-year-old’s move to the Premier League.
Aston Villa spent £31.5m to sign the left-footed defender in 2023 and Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that Manchester United are prepared to pay a fee in the region of £42m to land Torres.
Matthijs de Ligt has endured a difficult start to his career in English football after arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer, while Lisandro Martinez’s form this season has been mixed.
With further doubts over the futures of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans, the Red Devils could enter the market for another central defender and Torres has emerged as a Premier League proven option.
Villa, however, are likely to be reluctant to offers for a player who has become an integral figure under Emery.
