Manchester United improve Andre Onana offer

Manchester United have increased their offer for Andre Onana, but remain short of Inter Milan’s valuation of the goalkeeper.

United remain in negotiations with Inter Milan over a potential deal for the Cameroon international, who is Erik ten Hag’s first choice option to replace David de Gea as the club’s number one next season.

The Red Devils saw an opening offer for Onana turned down and have now increased that proposal with a second verbal bid, worth €45m (£38.5m).

However, Sky Sports Italy are reporting that the improved offer still falls below Inter’s valuation of the 27-year-old, who is valued at closer to €60m (£51.3m).

Onana signed for Inter on a free transfer from Ajax last summer and impressed during a strong debut season in Serie A. The goalkeeper began the campaign as a substitute, but broke into the side and starred as Simeone Inzaghi’s side reached the Champions League final.

Onana is regarded as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers in possession and Ten Hag is keen to reunite with a player who won three Eredivisie titles under his management at Ajax.

United, however, are working on a restricted transfer budget this summer due to Financial Fair Play restrictions and the club’s uncertain takeover situation. Brighton’s Robert Sanchez has been named as a potential alternative to Onana, if a deal can not be agreed.
