Manchester United finalise three man summer shortlist for number 10 role

Manchester United have compiled a three-man summer shortlist to fill their number 10 role, with the club desperate to solve their lack of midfield creativity.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are already formalising their recruitment plans ahead of what is likely to be a big window of investment at Old Trafford, the club targeting new midfield additions to bolster their ranks next season.

According to the Manchester Evening News,  James Maddison, Jack Grealish and Donny van de Beek have emerged as the final names on the Manchester United‘s transfer wish-list, the Red Devils preparing moves this summer after accepting mid-season deals for any of the trio would prove difficult.

Leicester’s Maddison has starred during the Foxes run to the Champions League places this season and has emerged as one of best creative talents in the Premier League, whilst the 23-year-old also perfectly suits the club’s recent recruitment policy of attracting emerging, British talent.

Likewise, Aston Villa‘s Grealish would also fit that profile, the 24-year-old thriving despite his side’s struggles in the top flight this season and being tipped with a first call-up to the senior England side.

Van de Beek is a player that has been on the radar of Europe’s leading sides in recent months, the midfielder having played a key role in Ajax’s domestic double last season and run to the Champions League semi-finals.

The club’s ability to attract the Netherlands international is likely to depend on whether they secure Champions League qualification next season, with Real Madrid also monitoring the 22-year-old ahead of a potential summer move.

Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes could be one player headed to the club this winter, though the arrival of the Portuguese midfielder will not impact the club’s interest in the aforementioned trio, United conscious they could need further midfield additions with wantaway star Paul Pogba understood to still be keen on a summer exit.
