Done deal – Solskjaer lauds Man Utd’s capture of ‘fighter’ and ‘winner’ Alex Telles from Porto

Manchester United have completed the signing of Alex Telles from Porto, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lauding the left-back as a ‘fighter’ and ‘winner’ upon his unveiling.

United had been keen to strengthen their options at full-back and have now confirmed the deadline day capture of the one-cap Brazil international, Telles arriving in a deal worth £15m plus future add-ons.

The signing will be a major boost to the Red Devils following their weekend capitulation to Tottenham, with the 27-year-old set to provide increased creativity from full-back having established himself in recent seasons as one of the best-attacking left-backs outside of Europe’s major leagues, scoring 26 goals and providing 57 assists in 195 games the Portuguese giants.

Telles arrives having won two league titles with the Portuguese giants and Solskjaer was quick to lavish praise on the new arrival, admitting the Brazilian will ‘add real determination and competition’ to the squad.

Speaking on the player’s signing, Solskjaer told the club website: “First and foremost, I welcome Alex to United. He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for. He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.

“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”

The full-back – who played for Galatasaray and Inter Milan before moving to Portugal – also expressed his delight after completing a move to English football, outlining his ambitions to win major silverware at Old Trafford.

“To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour. You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.

“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.”

United are expected to announce the further signings of Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri, while they are still pursuing a deal for Ousmane Dembele from Barcelona having finally given up on their chase of Jadon Sancho.
