After Sancho and Dembele, Man Utd contact Watford over a move for Ismailia Sarr

Manchester United have launched a move for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr after failing in their pursuits of Jadon Sancho and Ousmane Dembele.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been desperate to strengthen his side’s attacking options with a right-sided forward a priority signing this summer, the club having pursued a deal for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho throughout the transfer window.

The Bundesliga side outlined their demands early and insisted it would take a British transfer-record fee of €120m to prise the England international away from the Westfalenstadion, a fee United have described as ‘unrealistic’ in the current climate and refused to meet before the German’s deadline for a deal to be struck in early August.

Manchester United have since considered a host of alternatives and have also been linked with a move for Barcelona winger Dembele, the France international having struggled to fulfil expectations during three injury-hit seasons at the Camp Nou.

However, according to French outlet Telefoot, United have now turned their attention towards Watford’s Sarr, who impressed during his debut season in the Premier League last season despite the Hornets’ relegation.

The Senegal international scored five goals and provided a further four assists in 22 league starts, his performances having seen the youngster linked with Liverpool earlier in the summer – although they since opted for a move for Diogo Jota.

United have reportedly seen a loan offer with a £45 million option to buy rejected by the Championship side, who are understood to either want a permanent transfer, or for United to pay £25m if they opt against taking up the option to buy.

There remains time for a deal to be agreed beyond today’s transfer deadline, however, with an additional domestic window between Premier League and EFL clubs running until October 16, although United have to submit their Champions League squad to UEFA by Tuesday.
